Hong Kong is roughly 1,000 square kilometers. Its strategic position is at the mouth of the Pearl River Delta in the southeast corner of China. It is largely mountainous, with an abundance of lush, green foliage. It has dramatic, rocky coastline that drop off to either the harbor or the South China Sea.

There are many suppliers for the services and the costs depend on which suppliers you use and the plans you join. Usually it takes several days for the phone services to be fixed, but immediate service is usually available for the internet.

water_1Water supply would not be disconnected between tenants. Name on the water account has to be changed through the Water Consumer Enquiry Centers, the Water Supplies Department. It is advisable to run the water for several minutes before use in case of poor maintenance of storage tanks and pipes.

Tap water in Hong Kong is sterilized with Fluorine. Although it is fully complies with guidelines set by the World Health Organization, boiled tap water is always securer. Distilled water can be delivered to domestic users, but it is not good for the kidneys of children, especially babies. Water invoices are sent quarterly. For a 1000 sq. ft. premise, the water cost is roughly HKD1000 per month.

gas_1Most of the areas in Hong Kong are covered with natural gas supplies (also known as towngas in Hong Kong). Hong Kong China Gas Company is the only supplier. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is used in areas without towngas supplies, especially in the New Territories. It is supplied by major oil companies.

Monthly invoice is sent. And the estimated gas cost of a 1000 sq. ft premises is around HKD500.

The electricity supply in Hong Kong is 200/220 volts and 50 hertz. If your appliances do not fit the volts, transformers can be bought from reputable outlet. However, appliances which are not 50 hertz cannot be used as hertz cannot be changed by a transformer.

There are two electricity suppliers in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Electric provides services to Hong Kong Island and the Lamma. It would send monthly invoices to its customers. The China Light & Power (CLP) covers Kowloon, the New Territories and other outlying islands. Bi-monthly invoices are sent.  The estimated electricity cost of a 1000 sq. ft premises is around HKD1000 – 1500 per month.
